About the Ball
The origins of the Edinburgh St Patrick’s Day Charity Ball are closely linked with the opening of the Consulate General of Ireland in Edinburgh in 1998. What began over 25 years ago has grown into one of the city’s most established and well-loved social events.
Often affectionately known as the “Paddy’s Ball”, the evening has long been recognised for bringing together people from all backgrounds and nationalities — not just the Irish — to celebrate friendship, culture, and community. Over the years, the Ball has become synonymous with excellent food and drink, live entertainment, dancing, and the unique camaraderie that comes from reconnecting with old friends while making new ones.
Following its successful return in recent years, the Edinburgh St Patrick’s Day Charity Ball has firmly re-established its place on the Edinburgh social calendar. Today, it continues to evolve while staying true to its traditions — offering a memorable night out, outstanding value, and the opportunity to support important charitable causes within Edinburgh and beyond.

Community & Tradition
The Edinburgh St Patrick’s Day Charity Ball has always been about bringing people together — celebrating friendship, culture, and community in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
While the focus is very much on enjoying a great night out, the Ball also reflects a long-standing ethos of community involvement that has helped shape its character for over 25 years. Fundraising on the night is kept deliberately simple and sociable, taking place during dessert through a short raffle and auction, allowing guests to enjoy the evening while contributing in a relaxed and informal way.
